Jesus Showed Us How To Pray
Jesus lived a consistent life of prayer. He devoted Himself to continually find His secret place with His Father. After Jesus taught the multitudes, performed miracles and healings, or cast out demons, His response was to go and be alone with the Father to pray. Christ was a man; yet He became the fullness of the Father in a human vessel. He did this through a life of prayer. Hebrews 5:7-9 gives us a picture of Jesus: In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death. In His personal life of prayer, Jesus locked His Spirit into the Father; He learned the voice and the will of the Father. When He prayed, He filled Himself with the Spirit, equipping Himself to move as the Son of God. He learned how to draw the very nature of the Father into Himself and to appropriate the empowering of the Holy Spirit. The strength to face the most difficult time of His life–His crucifixion on the cross–was born out of His time of prayer alone with the Father. The oneness and ministry of the Body of Christ is very important. Your participation in a congregation of believers is very important. However, whatever we will accomplish as the Body of Christ will only happen because of your individual life of prayer. The Body-wide ministry will never be a substitute for your personal walk with Him. When Christ taught the disciples how to pray, He said, “…when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret…” (Matthew 6:6). Find your place of prayer. Find a place where you are able to engage in that personal relationship with the Father. Let Him work in your life and in your spirit. Nothing is more important than engaging yourself with the only One who is able to save you and impart to you all that is available in the Holy Spirit.
