Jesus Commanded Us To Love

The Body of Christ has been given this commandment: A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another (John 13: 34). When Christ came, He immersed Himself in our humanity. As Christ did, we must not be afraid to associate with one another in the love of God. The denominations in the Body of Christ should not be a result of our lack of love, disagreement, and division; rather, they should express our diversity and the many gifts and anointings of the Holy Spirit. What is the glory of God? It is the love of Christ. Today, we set our hearts to be faithful to the commandment of the Lord Jesus Christ, that we love one another. We conclude this School of Prophets with a determination to appropriate more of God’s love and to express His love. Whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him (1 John 2:5). Our goal is oneness — and our oneness with God and with each other begins with love.

God’s Promises For A Prophetic Community

The vision of the prophetic community was given to our founding father, John Robert Stevens, in 1972. The prophetic community would be a people created into oneness as the family of God who have a deep love and care for one another; they would be led by the Spirit and speak God’s Word with authority to create the Kingdom of God on earth. The scriptural foundation for this vision is found in Psalm 144 and Joel 2. This Word tonight proclaims the prophecies and promises that create the prophetic community. These prophecies from the Lord declare to us the day of blessing, the day of restoration, and the day when God will create a mighty people. There has never been anything like it, nor will there be again (Joel 2:2). Their sons in their youth are as grown-up plants, their daughters as corner pillars fashioned as for a palace (Psalm 144:12). Our children will move in a maturity to bring forth and hold up the Kingdom of God! The Lord will be zealous for His land and He will make up to you for the years that the locust has eaten (Joel 2:25). “My people will never be put to shame” (Joel 2:27). All of these promises are for the nation Israel and for the prophetic community today. Tonight we prophesy, releasing His Word, and the prophetic community comes to birth!

Balaam’s Counsel — The Tactic Of Satan

Their constant lack of trust in God drove the children of Israel into rebellion and rejection of Him, although His presence and provision were always with them. In their lack of trust, they accused Him and complained against Him. For the first time in His relationship with His people, God leveled total judgment against them (Numbers 14). At the same time of this significant event, satan–the adversary and the liar–learned a tactic that would continue to affect God’s people throughout history: he could manipulate people to violate their relationship with God so that God Himself would have to judge them for their lack of trust in Him. This tactic is first illustrated in the story of Balaam, and we see it repeated throughout the Scriptures. We must see the tactic of Balaam ended and the Body of Christ freed from any openness to it. As God walks us into the days of His Kingdom on earth, we will see more of satan’s attempts to push the Body of Christ into a lack of trust in God. This milestone Word is our sword in the spirit that brings us into greater authority as watchmen on the wall to protect the Body of Christ in the end time. This should not be our day of judgment; these are days of release into His Kingdom. We bring judgment against every plan of satan to turn these days of release into our destruction.

His response to their lack of trust in Him was to fulfill His Word by Himself, simply to honor His name. For that generation of Israelites, their complaining and murmuring proved to be a proclamation of their own future. In these days of His Kingdom coming to earth, we have all the faith we need. However, do we trust Him? In the midst of end-time events, each one of us in the prophetic community must trust Him–trust His motivations, His love, and His intentions. Tonight, talk to the Lord about your trust in Him; keep talking to Him until your trust is restored. He has given you a great honor and privilege to walk with Him today, in the most significant time on earth that the world has known. What would happen if we poured ourselves into Him and into one another as Christ poured Himself out for us? The Body of Christ would disappear into the image of God! We will never be the prophetic community that God is looking for unless we press into this oneness. Unity will not work because we will face issues that would tear us apart. However, when we are one we cannot be torn apart. Today, we let go of our fears and mistrust. We love God because He first loved us. When Jesus was baptized, He was driven by the Spirit into the wilderness and enabled to speak a Word of power against satan. Everything that Jesus did and said was filled with the Spirit and driven by the Spirit. Although we have received the Holy Spirit, we have yet to be filled with the Holy Spirit in the same life-changing manifestation that Christ experienced. When the temple in Jerusalem was restored, many people rejoiced, but there were those who wept in disappointment. They wept because the promise was that the glory of the latter house should be greater than the former. We must yearn to break through into the promise of the Holy Spirit: “I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high” (Luke 24:49). The Kingdom of God is a spiritual Kingdom; and for us to walk in the Kingdom we must be born of the Spirit. We must have an outpouring of the Spirit into our lives that moves us from this realm into the Kingdom of God. Father, we cry out to be born again in the Spirit. We’re thankful for what we have, but we are not satisfied. We contend for everything that You promised us in your covenant through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. We did not come out of Babylon for a lesser glory. We yearn for the greater glory, anointing, living Word, and power of Your Kingdom.

As we celebrate the historical outpourings of the Holy Spirit, we must also realize that we do not yet have all that God wants as a result of the Holy Spirit filling us. We must have more anointing, power, and authority to impart His gospel to our communities and to bring His Kingdom to earth. When Jesus was baptized, He was impelled by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness (Mark 1:10-12); the power of the Holy Spirit continued to be a force behind His ministry on earth. The ecclesia today needs to be driven and led by the Holy Spirit, just as Christ was in His ministry. What is blocking us from receiving the full, dynamic leading of the Holy Spirit? The answer is in our oneness. For it was only when “they were all with one accord in one place” (Acts 2:1) that the Holy Spirit was poured out upon them. Today, let us not just celebrate history. Let us make history! We press in with all of our hearts to see one body, one faith with one Lord, and one baptism of the Holy Spirit of power and anointing that will bring forth the Kingdom of God in our day.

In this relationship, He chooses not to know anything you don’t tell Him. Find a way to let Him know you, intimately. Today, by our will, we end the hiding, the fig leaf, and we let the Word be our searchlight. Don’t hold anything back from Him. Don’t play around with this. If we can honestly take this step, we can be the prophetic community the Father is looking for — a people of truth and oneness.

The prophets in the Scriptures were those who saw what the Lord was doing, spoke according to the will of God, and created changes in the earth by that prophetic Word. How do we become the prophetic community God is looking for? We need a renewing of our minds (Ephesians 4:22-24). There are concepts and paradigms in our minds that can block us from becoming and creating what the Lord wants. There is nothing more dangerous than wrong paradigms; they control our reactions to the world around us. If we are going to be prophets, we need to let the Lord wash us of our paradigms and be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). Today is the final day of Hanukkah as well as the first day of the new year. Hanukkah represents the cleansing and rededication of the temple, and God’s miracle of provision. Our bodies are a temple for the Holy Spirit, and by faith we reach in to see God’s temple cleansed. This year we rededicate ourselves to the Lord and prepare to live as a light to the world. When we dedicate ourselves to Him and give Him our free will, it allows Him to work in us for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13). This takes our drive and our groaning to be sons, but it also requires His miracle power to cleanse and transform us. Romans 8:29 assures us of His determined will for us: “For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son.” This is a year of our dedicated walk with Him. As we freely give our wills to Him, He will freely meet us and transform us into the image of His Son.

The transformation we seek comes through the renewing of our minds. We must come to I AM and break the barrier of time. God holds the past, the present, and the future before Him in His mind. And our faith can claim the promises of the past and the prophecies of the future for today. Jesus walked this way, and so did men of faith in the Scriptures. How can we become spiritual and move in the spirit? How can we start renewing our minds? Follow Daniel’s example: he prayed three times a day (Daniel 6:10). Schedule time during your day to pray in the Spirit. Prayer in the Spirit takes your mind out of conformity to this world and begins the process of the renewal of your mind. In Ephesians 4, Paul describes the purpose of the gift ministries that Christ gave to His church: “For the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12-13). The fruit of the gift ministries is not to see a few individuals minister; rather, their anointing must bring a many-membered Body of Christ to a place of oneness and maturity so the Body moves in a ministry to the world. The people of the Cathedral of Praise are on the brink of changing the landscape of Christianity — a landscape that fulfills Christ’s prayer of John 17:22: The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one. The first step is for you to pray for a revelation of where He has placed you in the Body. He places every member in the Body as it pleases Him (I Corinthians 12:18). When you receive that revelation, then commit with all your heart, in love and in faith, to function as a member of that Body. In that place where He sets you, you will mature and grow in His glory, and those around you become more than a church — they become your family of God.

Your Will — Perfected And Matured

This Word of instruction imparted faith and grace to walk into a new day. Cathedral of Praise is shifting more and more into a Kingdom focus and into becoming the Father’s family. As God’s family, we become the atmosphere of love and faith in which believers are brought into maturity and perfection — into the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ (Ephesians 4:13). Jesus was not born perfect; He learned obedience from the things that He suffered, and so shall we. The first step of maturity, and the first thing God will do with us as we become His family, is to perfect our will. But He is unable to make us do His will; we must determine to do His will. When we do that, God can create our will into His will and create our actions into His works (Philippians 2:13). As mature, perfected sons, we will bow our knees and confess with our tongue that Jesus is Lord and King.

God brought the Israelites into the wilderness, a place where there was nothing except Him and what He would provide. For God, the wilderness was to be a time of great impartation and blessing where they would become a unique people who know Him — to such a degree that they would be able to distinguish between what is Him and not Him. For the Israelites, the wilderness experience was a difficult time during which they longed for their former life as slaves in Egypt. In God’s mind, the wilderness was meant to be a detoxification experience for them. He wanted to cleanse them, physically and spiritually, of all the effects of slavery. In order to accomplish this purification, God had to be the only influence on them, and they had to be sustained by only what He Himself would provide. As we celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles, we cry out for our own wilderness experience. As we build our sukkahs, let us willingly separate ourselves from the influences of the world. God is about to give us the clearest picture of Himself. When our wilderness experience is complete, He will have the great witness of Himself to the nations: a people who live according to His ways. As we approach the Day Of Atonement, we find ourselves in a time of repentance. History and the Scriptures show us that God was angry with the children of Israel because they did not fully appropriate His provision of the Law and sacrifices. The same is true for us today. We have forgiveness through Christ, but our bodies are still dying as a consequence of sin. It angers God when we refuse the perfect provision He has made for us.
