Together, We Drink This Cup

In this pivotal time for us as a fellowship, God is asking Gary to drink the cup of transitioning from servant to leader. This transition seems insurmountable but when we look to the Scriptures, we find an encouragement in Joshua and the commission God gave him to lead the children of Israel into the promised land: “Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go” (Joshua 1:7). The story of Joshua shows us that this transition from servant to leader is done by virtue of a Word from God. It also shows us that God was expecting His commission to Moses to rest on a people. It is not enough that Gary alone drinks the cup the Lord is asking of him, but there must be a people who enter into the same commitment to drink this cup. It is time for each one of us to take responsibility for the Word of God over us. We have been given the perfect direction and provision in the Word that John Robert Stevens spoke. As we commit to that Word and take responsibility to follow God’s direction, the promises given to Moses will be fulfilled in a people.

The Vision For The School Of Prophets

John Robert Stevens gave us a vision for the school of prophets: a company of prophets who would travel the land and bind the principalities and powers that rule each locality and transfer the land and its people into God’s dominion. After the Exodus, Israel was the only nation on the earth that was directly under God’s rule, but because of their sin, God decided to remove them from His direct rule and place them under a lesser authority, just as He did with Adam and Eve. As God works within the hierarchical structure of beings He has put in place, He rules through other gods to whom He has delegated authority. But in their rebellion, many of these rulers have become the principalities and powers that the New Testament declares are to be judged. They must be bound or the hearts of people will remain blinded to the revelation of Christ (II Corinthians 4:4). This is the vision for the school of prophets: to bind the powers of darkness that have lordship over the earth and transfer it into the dominion of God. We ask that by His grace we become His true sons, in submission to His Lordship, able to fulfill the vision for the school of prophets.

Prophets Cannot Serve What They Must Rule

This Word came to clarify the role of the school of prophets. Ephesians 6:12 tells us that “our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.” There is hierarchy and order in the realm of spirit. The Hebrew word “Elohim” is actually plural, implying that there are many gods or beings that function on a higher level, ruling in the spirit realm. When God created man in His image, He created us with the ability to rule and reign with Him. However, when Adam and Eve sinned, mankind was taken out from under His Lordship and placed under many gods. Then man began to serve the things he was created to rule over. God is taking us through a process where He is setting us free from worshiping and serving every other thing besides Him. Why? Because He wants us to rule over these things! To become the school of prophets, we must enter into the Lordship of Jesus Christ, stop serving that which we were made to rule over, and engage in the spiritual battle to bring forth His Kingdom.

Jesus taught that the foremost commandment is, “‘Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is one Lord; and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself'” (Mark 12:30-31). This passage reveals that the root of our faith is a deep love.This love for God has been imparted to the graduates by the professors of this university. A true relationship with God is imparted more than it is ever taught. Beyond a diploma, these graduates have gained a true relationship with the Lord. Beyond a conclusion of study, today is the beginning of imparting to others what they have received. Let this deep love and relationship with the Lord become a primary focus and purpose in our lives. This message is the commencement address for the 4th annual graduation for Shiloh University.

True Prophets Must Be Intercessors

The greatest expression of our prophetic ministry will be our intercession that turns loose the grace and mercy of God throughout the earth. The greatest success of our prophecies will be the outpouring of God’s love on all people. Like Moses, we must have this cry in our heart: I’m willing to put myself between You and these people and I want You to change Your mind (Exodus 32:30-32). Samuel said, “Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray for you” (I Samuel 12:23). In truth, our failure to be intercessors is a greater sin than the sins of those we pray for. Cry out to God that the heart of intercession and mercy fills each one of us. If we are going to be a prophetic community, let us first and foremost be prophets of mercy.

Our Sabbath Anticipation

Why is it important that we, as Christians, celebrate the Shabbat? God gave the Sabbath to His creation and He blessed it. He sanctified the Sabbath and we should do the same. On the seventh day, God rests and beholds His creation (Genesis 2:2-3). He is beholding you and all that He has done in you, and He has one thing to say: “It is very good” (Genesis 1:31). In Judaism, a major part of the Shabbat is anticipating the coming of the Messiah. It is an anticipation of the fulfillment of His Word. In the synagogue on the Sabbath, Christ read from the messianic prophecies in Isaiah and said, “Today, this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing” (Luke 4:21). In Hebrews 4, Paul says that the Lord fixes a day for His people to enter His rest. We too are eagerly awaiting the coming of the Messiah, and we have many Words that have yet to be fulfilled in our lives. The Shabbat is a fixed time to anticipate the fulfillment of those Words.

God gave you salvation as a free gift from Him. He does not require a response to that free gift and indeed, any response beyond the faith to receive His free gift is not required in a salvation relationship with Him. However, as we seek the truth of what hinders us from moving as God’s vessels in this generation, we must ask Him: “What do You want out of my life?” When Jesus was tempted by satan in the wilderness, He quoted Deuteronomy 10:20: “You shall fear the Lord your God; you shall serve Him and cling to Him, and you shall swear by His name.” By this declaration, Jesus was making a choice that He will be singular in His worship and dedication to His Father. He would not serve or worship other gods. By this declaration of will, satan left. God is looking for voluntary worshipers who serve Him out of their heart and free will. The gods of this world tempt with their glitter and promises of possessing the world. The truth is that the only way for you to have everything is for you to freely give Him all of you, so that all He has and all He is becomes yours. This Word is the center point for this School of Prophets. Those who choose this path will walk in the Word of becoming a prophetic community.

We are coming to Shiloh to become a school of prophets. In the Scriptures, the school of prophets began with Samuel hearing the voice of the Lord. God called out and Samuel had to learn how to respond. We want to know why the Word is not working in us; it is not a problem with the Word, it is a problem with our ability to hear the Word. We must ask: Are we still willing and able to hear Him? Shiloh in the Scriptures went from a place of worship and hearing the Word to a place where they forgot the Word of the Lord, and He brought judgment and devastation. Which Shiloh are we coming to today? Are we coming to the place of His presence, where our drive is to sacrifice our lives and live in Him? Or have we come to the place where we’re so passive and hard of hearing that God has left? Cry out to Him with gut-wrenching hunger. Come here with the drive in your heart to find Him, lay hold of Him, and connect with Him in a way that you never lose Him again. Father, give us ears to hear Your Word and be changed.

The foremost commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart and strength (Mark 12:28-31; Deuteronomy 6:4-5). Everything else flows out of that relationship. God accepted Abel’s offering but not Cain’s (Genesis 4:1-6). It wasn’t because Cain offered the wrong sacrifice, but there was something wrong in Cain’s heart. He wasn’t loving the Lord. Religion uses outward works of service to God as a cover-up for a lack of relationship with Him. Religion is divisive and is diametrically opposed to God. The Word imparted a prophetic vision that the Lord has for these two churches. God has given Iglesia de Dios and Church of the Living Word an opportunity to love one another and become one in Christ. These two churches are like the “two by two” that Christ sent into every city and place where He Himself was going to come (Luke 10:1). In our oneness and authority, we will bind the spirits that blind people from seeing the gospel of the Kingdom. God is sending us two by two because each church has the language and the heart that can reach the community around us. This vision starts today in our neighborhood; yet for these two churches, the Lord has a much bigger vision. Passover Judges The Gods You Serve

Passover was all about God delivering His people to live in His Kingdom. Preceding the deliverance of the Israelites, however, judgment had to take place on all the gods of Egypt. Whether the Israelites liked it or not, because they were subject to Pharaoh, they were also subject to a pantheon of gods whom Pharaoh served. God’s judgment on these gods can be seen in each of the plagues, which were not merely judgments on natural things; rather, they were judgments on the deities behind the natural things that the Egyptians worshiped. God is still looking to deliver His people into His Kingdom. However, today we are just as subject to other spiritual deities as the children of Israel were. The only way we can live in the Kingdom is by making Christ our Lord; we cannot serve two masters. Once we are free from other gods and we are living in the Kingdom, we can, as a school of prophets, deliver all of humanity into the Kingdom. This Passover, we confess our subjection to other gods, and we ask God to finish what He started in the first Passover. Our cry is, Father, deliver us from all the other gods we serve and into Your Kingdom. This message came during Shabbat HaGadol.

God’s One Purpose

Jesus forgave our sin, and opened the door for us to relate to Him as Lord. Jesus is ruling, and we should be at His right hand bringing every enemy into subjection to His feet. As the school of prophets, we must weld our hearts together with God’s purpose and take dominion over all authority and power that is not in subjection to His Kingdom.

Our founder John Robert Stevens envisioned a generation who would have the ability to see and move in the realm of spirit. When satan showed Jesus all the kingdoms of this world, Jesus responded, “My kingdom is not of this world” (John 18:36). The kingdoms of this earth are not the Kingdom of God, but the earth will be brought into subjection to the Kingdom of God. Christ is seated at this moment at the right hand of the Father. He already has a name above every name and He is in the process of ruling and reigning until every enemy is made the footstool of His feet. And when that is totally accomplished, then the kingdoms of this world will have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ. If you are in total subjection to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, then wherever you are is a manifestation of His Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. The Lord taught us to pray, “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven,” but He expects us to become that prayer. In our submission, we rule with Him; and what we bind and loose in heaven will be bound and loosed on earth. Lord, loose the vision of Your Kingdom to us. Get us out of the smallness of our understanding. Expand our hearts and our revelation to understand that You are in the process of establishing Your Kingdom on earth, and let us be a part of establishing it with You.

The Saints Possess The Kingdom

Our focus is to be on the establishment of the Kingdom of God. The greatest purpose of salvation was to release us out of our bondage to satan’s kingdom and transfer us to the Kingdom of God. For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son (Colossians 1:13-14). Our salvation is just the first step in the Kingdom of God coming to earth. Daniel chapter 7 shows the picture of the Kingdom of God — when it is given to Christ as an everlasting dominion which will not pass away, and a kingdom which will not be destroyed. Daniel also shows us that Christ possesses His Kingdom with His saints: the saints took possession of the kingdom (Daniel 7: 22). Every enemy is in the process of being put into subjection to God and we are supposed to be there with Christ participating in this battle to see the release of His Kingdom. We are to be the ones that bind the strongman and plunder his house. We are to be those who execute, by His Word and Name, the judgments over His enemies. Therefore, we need to be born again in the Spirit in order to engage in what Christ is doing now. We must be involved in this process of bringing His Kingdom. Our focus must be that we do not lose our position of being under the Lordship of Christ, but we keep ourselves positioned at His right hand, persisting in a life in the Spirit. We commit ourselves to engage with the Lamb to see Him receive the reward of His sufferings and to receive His Kingdom free of all His enemies and every resistance. We keep our focus where Christ is, seated at the right hand of the Father, directly involved with the establishment of the Kingdom of God in the heavens and on earth.

This principle of growth and increase is illustrated in the drive of Elisha to serve Elijah, the hearts of Timothy, Titus, and Epaphroditus as they served Paul, and in Jesus Himself who took the form of a bondservant. The Holy Spirit increased within them until they received a double portion. Like the young generation around the early apostles, this generation must find a way to serve the Lord’s anointed with the gift that has been imparted to them by the Holy Spirit. As they serve, the Holy Spirit within them will grow, and they will have the power and anointing that is needed to impact the world. Christ is returning to earth to set up His Kingdom; and for believers, there is no greater blessing than to live in the Kingdom of God. The plan of satan is to turn this time of Christ’s return into a time of curse rather than blessing. God has an answer for this. His plan is a counterforce to everything the enemy intends to do. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, The Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him. And the Redeemer shall come to Zion (Isaiah 59:19-20 (KJV)). This Scripture shows us that just before the return of Christ, the Holy Spirit raises up a standard to do away with everything that the enemy has planned. God’s people are that standard. When it appears that the enemy is rushing in with division and hatred, do not be overwhelmed. The spirit of Elijah will come again upon a great company of people, a mighty people (Malachi 4:5-6), and they are the answer that is the counterforce to satan. Know this: God’s plan wins because He WILL fulfill His Word, and you are God’s plan.

When Israel cried out in the midst of the annihilation against them, God instructed Ezekiel to prophesy to Israel: “I will put My Spirit within you and you will come to life, and I will place you on your own land.” Ezekiel 37:11-14. In the midst of the threat of annihilation against Israel today, we also take this instruction to prophesy God’s Word to Israel. We love that which is begotten of God, and the Word tells us that Israel is God’s first-born son (Exodus 4:21-22). “. . .whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him” (I John 5:1). In our prophecy we are releasing faith through love. We prophesy the restoration of Israel and the Jewish people. We stand on God’s Word over His people, knowing that God WILL fulfill His Word. With the restoration of Israel, God’s first-born son, we also eagerly await our own baptism into the promise of Abraham — so that we too will be given a new heart and a new spirit, that we may walk in His statutes and keep His ordinances.

In these days of tribulation, we must realize that the heart of satan has not changed. Unless these days are shortened, no flesh will be saved alive (Matthew 24:22). We must understand that today satan is determined to annihilate all of mankind, not only the Jewish people. In this day, the wisdom of the prophetic community, linked with the grace of God and the Word of God, will bring about a miraculous deliverance. As we partake of the Communion, we partake of the proof that the annihilation of mankind will be reversed. It is reversed by His cross, His suffering, and by the grace of God. The threat of annihilation is great, but greater is the deliverance that He has provided, and this is the source of our rejoicing.

There must be a freedom in us from every openness to the satanic spirit of division and lack of love that God is judging in this day. Christ’s freedom from satan’s influence was based on His obedience to the Father. Likewise, we too have our freedom from the spirit of division as we obey the one commandment that Christ gave us: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:34-35). Under the Law, the commandment was to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Leviticus 19:18). Today, the Lord is saying, “Make it new!” Receive this new commandment to love one another in the power of the Word that imparts the ability to love. Many people are looking for more outpourings of the Holy Spirit, but the Holy Spirit abiding in us is directly connected to our obedience to this commandment that we love one another. More than we know, this love will be the answer to everything we battle and every difficulty. Keep fervent in your love for one another. It IS our release from division. We take this Word as our Purim deliverance.

Elijah is an example of a prophet who saw a problem, knew what to do, and brought the presence of God into the situation. As a result of Elijah’s action, people were freed to worship the one true God. A prophet not only sees in the spirit, but prophesies and speaks God’s Word with the authority and anointing to create change. The true effectiveness of a prophet’s anointing brings God’s presence into a situation. As we see in the stories of the prophets Elijah (I Kings 18:18-40) and Jahaziel (II Chronicles 20:14-29), they directed the worship with one intense purpose: to bring God’s presence. The direct result of His presence was the destruction of the works of the devil. We believe for many young adults to become the effective prophets that the world needs today. The Word was preceded by welcoming nearly 200 Catholic young adults to our prophetic community in Mount Zion. We acknowledge that the Holy Spirit is igniting a revolutionary movement for oneness in their hearts and spirits.

The Power To Be One

When we talk about oneness, one of the problems people have is that it seems impossible because division and diversity of doctrines has existed for so many generations. Whatever our history may be, we have the ability right now to change it! We can repent for the sin of division and lack of love. We can determine to be a new generation entering into a new day, a day of faith, a day of oneness. We live in the time of the Kingdom of God in its manifestation on earth, and satan knows that to block the Kingdom, he must bring division (Matthew 12:25). Many times, God has poured out His Spirit onto a people, but where did that power and anointing go? It was consumed in division. We could be the generation that ends division. As prophets, we cry to Him like Daniel did: “Oh God, because of Your great mercy, open Your eyes and see our desolation. Look at the divisions in Your church today and answer us, not for our own merit, but for the sake of Your own name.” (Daniel 9:18-19). God is answering the cry for oneness for His own name’s sake. What enables us to be immovable on this issue of oneness? Our faith and trust are based on the Lord’s own prayer: “that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me” (John 17:21). The Father WILL fulfill the prayer of His Son! The power to be one comes from His Word, which He will fulfill.

Develop A Relationship With The Holy Spirit

Our relationship with the Holy Spirit must begin with an understanding of God’s nature. In the Scriptures, God introduces His name as Wonderful, which in Hebrew means incomprehensible (Judges 13:17-18; Isaiah 9:6). How do we relate to God who is wonderful, incomprehensible, beyond our ability to grasp — by relating to Him in the Trinity. The Holy Spirit is an aspect of God’s wondrous being. The Holy Spirit takes everything that is Christ and everything that is the Father, and He imparts to us and teaches us (John 16:12-13). The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit function in oneness. The Holy Spirit has been given to us to bring us into that same oneness. As we develop into a prophetic community, we must be alert to anything that mimics the flow of the Holy Spirit. Our relationship with the Holy Spirit takes time, energy, determination, and the force of our will driving us into His will. The natural realm, the psychic realm, and the demonic realm do not require a relationship. The Holy Spirit will always unfold to you the will of the Father; and will always move through you by virtue of relationship. This Word brings the prophetic community into an intimate, functional, tangible relationship with the Holy Spirit.

Anti-Semitism — The Plan Of Satan

The Body of Christ is experiencing a transition in spiritual warfare where God’s adversary, satan, will attempt to manipulate believers and the nations into a place where God must bring judgment to honor His name. This manipulation I call the tactic of Balaam, in which people are drawn into actions that the adversary knows God must judge (Numbers 24). One of the tactics of Balaam that we will see in this day is to draw the Body of Christ and the nations into anti-Semitism. God, through Abraham, made an unbreakable covenant with Israel and the Jewish people. In that covenant God said: And I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed (Genesis 12:3). It is time for the Body of Christ to realize that anti-Semitism is a tactic of Balaam, for if Christians engage in anti-Semitism they have positioned themselves under God’s judgment. Every anti-Semitic thought or action is in direct opposition to God’s Word to Abraham, and God will fulfill His Word. This Word is a warning to the Body of Christ. Today we pray, “Father, give us Your thinking and Your heart for the Jewish people and for Israel–Your heritage of the covenant.”

In the Communion, we partake of the provision of life that is Christ Himself: Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. I am the bread of life. I am the bread which comes down out of heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever (John 6:48-51). When you eat the bread of life, you become one with Him, for He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him (John 6:56). Let us rest in this oneness with Him by simply partaking of His provision. We have taken Communion many times with faith. Tonight, we take it with trust. Trust in the provision of life that the Father has given us. This is the moment when our oneness with Him can happen as we abide in Him and trust His Word.
