His Compassion Through Sufferings
The Scriptures teach us that Jesus was perfected through the things that He suffered. Suffering produced in Him GodÂ’s heart of compassion. JesusÂ’ function as the Son of God was by virtue of this heart of compassion that the Father had created in Him. Compassion is part of the very nature of God. Compassion is defined as a deep consciousness of the distress and sufferings of another accompanied with a drive and desire to alleviate that suffering. The Scriptures state that compassion is what motivated Christ to teach, heal, raise the dead, perform miracles, and sacrifice His life for ours on the cross. 1 Peter 5:10 makes it clear that God is perfecting us by sufferings. That we likewise might be His sons, with a heart of compassion, enabled to minister as Christ in our generation.
