What John The Baptist Did Not Know

John the Baptist saw himself in the scriptures in Isaiah 40:3-5 as a messenger to prepare the way for the Lord. However, John the Baptist was never able to realize that he was Elijah (Matthew 1:14; John 1:21), and therefore we never see his potential ministry of restoring the hearts of the fathers to their children (Malachi 4:5-6). John the Baptist was the only one who initially knew Christ was the Messiah, but he failed to create a real atmosphere of faith and revelation and connection around Christ, and in fact he later lost his revelation. This Word pierces our heart that unless we know who we are and our destiny in God and walk in it with all of our heart, then even the revelation we have had may dry up and be ineffective.
